UWTSD students prepare to showcase their talents at 2023 Studio Productions

Students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s BA Acting, BA Set Design & Production, and MA Theatre Directing courses are getting ready to perform their Studio Productions.

Studio 2023 Performance

Two productions will be performed;  'Image of an Unknown Young Woman,’ written by Elinor Cook, and directed by William Kingshott; and ‘Wonderful World of Dissocia,’ written by Anthony Neilson, and directed by Oliver Goulstone, at the Parry Theatre on the Carmarthen Campus, between Thursday 18th May – Saturday 20th May.

Students will also perform at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Monday, May 21st.

William Kingshot is looking forward to showcasing his directing skills, after working hard, learning, and developing his craft, before his final project directing ‘Image of an Unknown Young Woman.’ He said:

He said: “Studio/site-specific theatre is massive in the industry therefore it’s refreshing knowing that this experience is already preparing me for life after graduating.

“Understanding the process of pitching your play, collaborating with various departments, and understanding yourself and your rehearsal space as a director is important and thankfully this module is allowing me to do just that.

“As it is a two-year MA course - the first year’s focus is a lot on researching different styles, plays, practitioners, methods & techniques - understanding what works best for you and your craft of directing. This opportunity allows me to put all of that learning into practice for my final dissertation project.”

William studied the BA Acting course prior to his MA and during his time there, he said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching atmosphere and quality. As I was gaining more experience in acting, the idea of transforming text from page to stage was forever fascinating me, therefore I went onto gain some directing experience which then led me to this course.”

Oliver Goulstone is the director for ‘Wonderful World of Dissocia.’ He said: “My time at UWTSD has given me further opportunities to direct and manage a production to its full realisation and to continue building directorial skills, communication, and teamwork with an array of talented peers.

“The two-year course builds up until this final module and production, where we utilize all the skills and methods learnt to complete the objective of a polished final performance.”

Oliver added that the course: “has given me a platform to continue building skills to direct and inspire actors and creatives in the industry. I've had the opportunity to build workshops, work with people of all ages and manage and tackle workloads and challenges. I'm all the better for it!”
