UWTSD Tourism and Events students hosted an Industry Opportunities Day at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre on January 23.

UWTSD Tourism and Events students hosted an Industry Opportunities Day at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre on January 23.

UWTSD’s long history of Higher Education in Wales includes a well-established School of Hospitality and Tourism, bringing enhanced opportunities to the people of Wales. With strong links to businesses and industry partnerships that elevate students and communities, the University’s co-designs its courses to instil in graduates the attributes desired by employers.

The excellent speakers inspired the students, sharing a range of exciting new placement, events, and project opportunities. These are designed specifically to help students develop their professional industry skills, alongside their academic skills.

Aggie Grover, UWTSD Tourism alumni and Talent Acquisition Specialist at TUI shared her career journey and also the Travel & Tourism career & placement opportunities available to students across Tui’s operations globally and locally.

Ricky Davies and Scott Jordan of MITOURS™  introduced the students to the opportunities available as part of their Events team. This will provide students with research project opportunities as well as placements where they will be involved in managing sports tours and festivals in the UK and overseas.

Zoe Antrobus, from 4TheRegion highlighted the opportunities to support the range of events & projects organised by the partnership, including helping to plan, organise, market, and run the forthcoming Swansea City Centre Conference at Swansea Arena.

The day was also an excellent opportunity to share the new and wide-ranging events, volunteering, internship, and paid project opportunities provided for students across University of Wales Trinity Saint David campuses.

Kelly Williams Executive Head of Operational Estates at UWTSD and the University's Business Development Manager Chloe Parsons gave the students an excellent insight into the wide range of events hosted across campuses including the University’s Halliwell Conference Centre. They also introduced the students to the paid events and hospitality experiences and project planning opportunities.

Nicola Powell from the UWTSD Civic Engagement Team and Inspire shared some of the opportunities for students to become involved in community and civic events and festivals supported by UWTSD Lampeter, Carmarthen, Cardiff, and Swansea Campuses.

Jacqui Jones, Programme Manager for International Events, Tourism and Leisure Resort Management programmes at UWTSD said: “It was an inspirational day for the students introducing them to just some of the opportunities available this semester. It's an exciting time for UWTSD Tourism and Events students as they develop the opportunities available for placements, industry projects, organise events and volunteer. They're also looking forward to two international trips to Switzerland and Aspen, Colorado."
