BA Perfformio (Performance) student cast as one of the leading roles in the musical 'GREASE'

Lloyd Macey, BA Perfformio student (Welsh medium BA Performance) at Canolfan Berfformio Cymru (The Wales Centre for Performance) has been cast by the New Theatre’s production of ‘GREASE.’

After several auditions of singing, acting and dancing, Lloyd received the news of his success. Lloyd will play Kenickie, one of the main characters.

The show will run from the 4th to the 7th of November at the New Theatre in Cardiff.

Lloyd said: "I'm so grateful that I was chosen and am looking forward very much to working hard at perfecting the role of Kenickie. The techniques I’m learning on my BA Perfformio course go hand in-hand with the experience."

Eilir Owen Griffiths, coordinator of the BA Perfformio course said: "Canolfan Berfformio Cymru is proud of the fact that our students succeed outside the boundaries of lecture rooms. Additional experiences like this can only enrich their experience as performers.

"The basic ethos is to provide the BA Perfformio students with a solid technique, coupled with a broad understanding of the creative industries in Wales and further afield. The degree is of a practical nature with regular opportunities for students to perform and showcase their progress."

BA Perfformio has been running at Canolfan Berfformio Cymru (The Wales Centre for Performance) since September this year. It is an opportunity for students to study over a period of two years and through the medium of Welsh. The intensive teaching takes place in The Gate Arts Centre, Cardiff, with periods of teaching also at the UWTSD Carmarthen campus.

In focusing on preparing students for life as professional performers, BA Perfformio places great emphasis on practical aspects, with voice, body, mind and career of a performer key to the program's content.
