Certificate of Higher Education in STEM

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is offering a Certificate of Higher Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The course is a Foundation year that can give students the entry requirements needed for entry onto any of the BEng and BSc programmes in the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (FACE) at UWTSD Swansea. FACE is a multidisciplinary faculty, covering mechanical and manufacturing engineering, automotive and motorsport engineering, logistics, computing, electronics, built environment and environmental conservation.

With streams in Automotive Engineering, Built Environments, Computing, Electronics, Environment and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, the Foundation Course has common core modules offering introduction in skills such as math, science and academic writing. Each stream also has specialised modules relating to the area of study. The Foundation Year is also offered as a stand-alone Certificate of Higher Education.

Craig Shreeves, former foundation student, BEng Motorcycle Engineering graduate 2015 said:

“The foundation year really helped me to catch up with the maths and science aspects of the degree. Because of the head start that the foundation year gave me, I found time to get involved with extra-curricular projects in my first year.”

Associate Professor Stephen Hole, Dean of FACE said: “FACE has a long history of "Reaching Wider" and we appreciate the challenges that students can face, often through no fault of their own. We also appreciate the challenges presented to individuals wishing to change career. This programme is intended to address and resolve any deficiencies in students' skills in order to meet the entry requirements for our degree. We have a friendly team of academics who are dedicated to the well-being and academic progress of our students and offer excellent support to students on this Foundation Year.”
