Developing resource packs for the Welsh Government’s new Professional Learning Model

Over the past few months Canolfan Peniarth has been collaborating with staff from University of Wales, Trinity Saint David to develop a range of innovative learning packs that will make a key contribution to the Masters in Educational Practice (MEP) programme and the Welsh Government’s new Professional Learning Model programme.

The Professional Learning Model’s aim is to improve the quality of proffesional practice in the education sector, and it provides a basis for the ‘new deal’ that was announced by the Education Minister, Huw Lewis, earlier in 2014. The ‘new deal’ provides high quality professional learning opportunities to practitioners during their career, and recently the Welsh Government launched new e-learning packs to support those opportunities.

In collaboration with staff from University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Wales Institue for Work Based Learning, and Wales Centre for Equality in Education, Canolfan Peniarth has developed resources and e-learning packs that provide practical guidance on themes such as Reflective Practice, Effective use of Data and Research, Effective Collaboration, and Coaching and Mentoring, with all of the packs providing sufficient depth to support Masters-level study, and in particular the Welsh Government’s Masters in Education Practice (MEP).

Gwydion Wynne, Director of Canolfan Peniarth said, “As a centre that serves the education sector in Wales, it has been very exciting for us at Canolfan Peniarth to be able to make a significant contribution to these innovative learning packs.  We have been able to bring together expertise from different departments and faculties across the University to create an exciting series of reflective resources for the teaching profession”.

The resources can be found on the Welsh Government’s Learning Wales website. Not only do the resources contribute to the MEP, but they are also available to the public free of charge.  For more information, visit the Learning Wales website.
