Glass Painting Workshops at UWTSD Swansea

The Architectural Glass Centre, the commercial arm of the Swansea School of Architectural Glass at UWTSD Swansea, is continuing its programme of glass painting workshops next month with Jonathon Cooke.

There will be a Glass Painting workshop on 11th-14th September and a Silver Stain & Enamel workshop on the 15th-17th September.

The glass painting workshops will run over three and a half days, the silver stain and enamel over two and a half days.

Jonathan Cooke, Accredited Conservator-Restorer (ACR) is an accomplished teacher who has been demonstrating and sharing his acclaimed multiple layering techniques with essential oils and other media throughout his career.

The workshop is suitable for beginners or for those with previous experience of glass painting. Jonathan will demonstrate glass painting using a technique whereby a number of layers of paint can be built up prior to firing. He will also discuss materials, tools and firing schedules. During the workshop there will be ample time for participants to practice the technique and to produce samples.

Jonathon’s acknowledged generosity as a teacher has enabled many professional and amateur glass artists to adopt and explore these techniques, which are now widely and commercially exploited by others.

His expertise and experience is called upon for the most challenging of projects: replicas include the decayed medieval stained glass of the Savile Chapel at Thornhill Parish Church, a copy of a Kempe window destroyed by arson and the recreation of the lost Charity window for the Tivoli recess in the Soane Museum.  The preparatory full size cartoon he produced and donated to the Museum was described by the Director as 'a work of art in its own right.'
