UWTSD Governor Wins National Manufacturing Award


Roger Evans MBE yn derbyn ei wobr.Roger Evans MBE, Managing Director at Schaeffler (UK) Ltd and a member of University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) governing body, has been chosen by his peers for the national Manufacturing Champion Award, a prestigious national award in the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

The Manufacturing Champion Award celebrates the achievements of individuals who, through vision, dedication, hard work and tireless involvement, have made a significant contribution to UK manufacturing.The award followed his nomination as the regional Manufacturing Champion in January 2015.

Chosen from hundreds of entries, the national winners of the Future Manufacturing Awards were revealed at the Awards Gala Dinner, Grand Connaught Rooms in London on 15th April 2015. Roger Evans won the Manufacturing Champion Award, given annually to an individual deemed to have made a significant contribution to UK manufacturing.

The judges were won over by Mr Evans’ vision, dedication and determination. In addition to his leading role at Schaeffler UK, he is also Director of Industry Wales, Director of the Welsh Automotive Forum and Chairman of the Welsh Manufacturing Forum.

The judges awarded the highly coveted title after agreeing that Roger shows leadership, encourages innovation, invests in research and development, builds partnerships with suppliers, trains employees to high standards and generates profits to guarantee security.

As well as successfully managing the day-to-day operations of the Schaeffler UK manufacturing plant in Llanelli from 2001 to March 2014, Roger Evans has also been instrumental in formulating and driving forward a manufacturing strategy in Wales. Schaeffler UK’s world class manufacturing plant in Llanelli, South Wales produces precision engine components including general bearings and mechanical tappets for the automotive industry. The plant, which was established in 1957, employs 250 people including an annual intake of four apprentices.

Mr Evans plays a key governance role across the UWTSD Group – which is comprised of UWTSD, Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion. He is currently Chair of the Corporate Board at Coleg Sir Gar and is a member of the UWTSD University Council.

Roger Evans MBE said: “Manufacturing is a dynamic and exciting sector full of people who are passionate and committed to what they do. To be recognised in this way is therefore a tremendous honour. I am absolutely delighted as much for my hard-working team as for myself, as without their commitment and support this achievement would not have been possible.”
