The Westminster Sisters

Agnes Smith Lewis and Margaret Dunlop Gibson

Twins Agnes Smith Lewis PhD LLD DD LittD (1843–1926) and Margaret Dunlop Gibson LLD DD LittD (1843–1920), sometimes referred to as the Westminster Sisters, travelled to St Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai, in 1892, and discovered there the earliest Syriac version of the Gospels thus far known.

They returned the following year to transcribe the whole of the manuscript, known as the Sinaitic Palimpsest. (Next)
