The Centre for Applied Glass Arts Research brings together the eighty-year tradition of teaching and research in glass at UWTSD, with ongoing research projects at the University’s Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies.
The Centre exists to support its members in collaborative research on themes including contemporary glass practice, historical research and interpretation, emerging methodologies of practice-based enquiry in historical research and documenting and archiving to facilitate the use and re-use of our glass heritage. The Centre’s research also covers industry applied R&D in computational modelling of projectile impact onto automotive windscreens using transient finite element analysis and research into recycled glass for architectural applications
The research outcomes are disseminated through exhibitions, symposia, publications, client reports and teaching.
The Centre welcomes enquiries, discussion and opportunities for further collaborative research and consultation.
