Chris Ryan

Director - Arts Care

Chris Ryan has been Director of Arts Care Gofal Celf (ACGC) for the last 15 years, or so. ACGC delivers participative arts programmes across West Wales, with particular experience of working within health, wellbeing and social care sectors. Chris has spent most of his working life in the voluntary sector, previously having worked in community development in the Gwendraeth Valley, Carmarthenshire and for two large national charities developing leisure and employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.

A music graduate, Chris continues to perform and teach regularly in a variety of musical idioms.

Arts Care - Gofal Celf was one of the first professional Arts in Health Organisations to be established in the UK. A member of the Arts Council’s Arts Portfolio Wales, ACGC operates primarily in West Wales. Working in partnership with many third sector and statutory organisations, they have developed a wide range of programmes which directly address the health and wellbeing of communities and individuals across the region.

ACGC’s Director, Chris Ryan, will outline several key areas of work including the long-standing mental health programme, ‘Creative Communities,’ social prescribing, Dance for Parkinson’s and its ‘Yma a Nawr’ dementia and intergenerational project.
