Dr Lewis Pearson

Head of Life Design, UWTSD

Dr Lewis Pearson is an award-winning designer and lead on the Life Design initiative at UWTSD. With a PhD in design communication, his current role brings a unique perspective to personal and professional development across the university. Lewis is passionate about effective communication, problem solving and improving people’s lives, and his research into improving designer-client communication is built upon these values.

Lewis’s research contributes to the ongoing debate on how to improve communication between designers and clients. User-centred design problems are frequently complex and highly faceted, particularly in cases where the client is the carer of a disabled child seeking a bespoke solution to a problem they are facing.

This talk provides an overview of the challenges surrounding effective communication between user-centred designers and carers of children with neurological conditions. A novel design toolkit is presented, that is capable of improving the usefulness of information gathered during verbal exchanges between designers and their clients.
