Mental Health and Wellbeing

The discipline of Psychology and Counselling at UWTSD works across a range of public sector organisations, including schools.

The team collaborates closely with teacher-educators who bring expert knowledge of the curriculum and pedagogy, while the domain-specific academic and research expertise is provided by Psychology and Counselling. The Academic Director, Dr Ceri Phelps led a team across seven universities to finalise the wellbeing modules for the National MA Education (Wales), a unique collaborative programme aimed specifically at qualified teachers in the context of the realisation of the Curriculum for Wales.

Areas in which Psychology and Counselling can provide professional learning include:

  • Counselling Skills
  • Mental Health in Children and Young People
  • Combatting Prejudice and Discrimination in Education
  • Stress, Coping and Resilience
  • Managing Anxiety during COVID-19
