I am currently pathway leader for the BA Digital Humanities programme on the Lampeter campus. I have acted as the School of Business Examination Officer since 2004. The role involves detailed knowledge and practice of quality assurance and university regulations, reviewing the progression and award of each student at all stages of their registration on a programme. I teach a variety of technical and applied business modules.
I was schooled in Ireland and enjoyed science from an early age becoming an Aer Lingus Young Scientist Prize winner in 1986.
Following undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Applied Science I have a Master’s in Computer Science and Interface Design and a PhD in Designing and Evaluating Intelligent web based systems for training small business. I have over 20 years’ experience in university teaching and research and it is a career that I greatly enjoy.

Currently delivering modules on the Digital Humanities (BA) degrees (Lampeter campus).

My research focus has been in system development and inclusion in IT. Substantial research grants have supported the development of web based training systems for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for SMEs in the EU, namely TRICTSME (Training in ICTs for SMEs) and TRIMAR (On-Line Intelligent Training System for Internet Marketing by SMEs sector). The research projects assessed the possibilities of using e-learning to facilitate knowledge and skills acquisition by SMEs in e-Commerce and Internet marketing.
Academic lead on the Software Alliance Wales project at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The project has been very successful engaging Welsh businesses from a range of business sectors on specialist training on our four project strands, namely; events for businesses, training for businesses, student projects with businesses and business accreditation. Our notable participation in this all-Wales project has further promoted the reputation of our university as a key driver of skills in the regional economy, particularly in South and West Wales.
My technical (Computing) research work on developing innovative web based training environments has been cited in academic peer reviewed journals and the systems have been replicated and tested in two separate Chinese University research groups. These developments evidence my specialist skills, and subject leadership in web based training for small businesses and the citations and replication of my work highlights the relevance and the durability of these technical systems.
