Primarily, my role within the university is to train, coach and mentor trainee teachers for Wales and to develop innovation in teaching and learning for both staff and students.
I am currently a personal tutor for the BAEd QTS cohort and deliver regular sessions meeting wider academic and personal needs.
Since studying at Trinity Saint David and obtaining my BEd Hons, I have taught in both England and Wales for over sixteen years in the primary sector. I have had the privilege of educating children in both Foundation phase and Keystage 2 and have taught every age group in the primary sector. During this time I accepted additional Teaching and Learning Responsibilities. It was a pleasure to be part of the senior management team and directly influence the improvement in achievement and attainment of staff and children in my schools.
I have delivered many keynote addresses and staff training insets for local authorities and cluster schools and have been involved with numerous pilot projects for county that involved innovative use of ICT to enhance learning experiences for children.
I have been a member of the SWWCTE team for fours years and have endeavoured to bring creativity and innovation to systems and procedures as well as teaching and learning within the university.
I thoroughly enjoy and relish the opportunity to help train the teachers of the future.
My responsibilities include the following:
- I am the coordinator of two modules, ITPP5001/C and ITWC6001. This responsibility includes the writing of module handbooks, planning, coordinating and delivering module content and the coordination and marking of all related assignment material in line with university QA guidance.
- I am responsible for the mentoring of PGCE and BAEd programme trainees whilst on PTE placement.
- I provide content, lecture and mark for the following modules:
BAEd QTS - ITPP4001/C, ITPT4001/C, ITSP4002/C, ITCM4001/C, ITPP5001/C, ITPT5001/C, ITWC6001/C,
PGCE - Module 1, Module 4, Module 5
- I deliver a number of additional lectures for a variety of other schools/ organisations within the university these include sessions with focused content on the use of ICT to engage learners for the school of Social Justice and Inclusion (PES) and Teach First. Also, Introductory lectures for new trainees in induction week for both PGCE and BA Ed programmes.
- I deliver staff training sessions during SWWCTE staff development days for both Primary and Secondary staff relating to “engaging learners” and the development of “Reflective skills” through the creation and implementation of the ARC reflective model adopted by SWWCTE.
- I lead a reflective working party that was charged with ensuring the implementation of the new ARC model for trainee use across SWWCTE.
- As part of my role of innovation in Teaching and Learning, I deliver a number of mentor training sessions for members of the SWWCTE partnership (Mentors, senior mentors, head teachers) across a number of locations outside the university (Cardiff, Cardigan).
- I am a staff representative of the student/staff group (Staff & group rep members)
- I support the interview process by regularly attending open days and conducting interviews for both BA Ed and PGCE prog etc
- I have been the SWWCTE representative on the Learning Teaching and Enhancement Committee and as such engaged in related activities relating to this position.

MA Research – Currently I am engaging in research focused on the development of the reflective capabilities of trainee teachers. I am working with staff from IEE and to contribute content for a number of educational publications.

I deliver a number of inset training days in higher education, secondary education and the primary education sector. For example, I train staff at Coleg Ceridigion in their development of ‘engaging learners through active learning strategies’ and staff at Greenhill Secondary School in their use of ‘questioning to aid AfL and engagement.’
I organise the ‘Aiming for Excellence’ Conference (Annual conference for trainees delegates from all primary programmes and members of the partnership.)
