The University recognises and embraces its role to facilitate positive environmental change.
UWTSD is proud to have been awarded a First Class Award in People & Planet’s University Green League table for the past two years!
This year UWTSD placed 27th out of 150 UK Universities, climbing from 113th in the League in 2013, and scored full marks in “Policy & Strategy” and “Staff and Student Engagement”!
People & Planet’s University League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. The ranking combines data obtained directly from universities through the Freedom of Information Act with Estates Management Statistics data obtained from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
The annual ranking assesses the environmental and ethical performance of all universities, awarding First Class 'degrees' to the greenest and Fail to those doing the least to address their environmental and social impacts. UWTSD is one of 30 universities to achieve a ‘First’ in the league.

The University is committed to providing a stimulating, progressive, and sustainable environment for learning while considering social, economic, and environmental impacts and opportunities. An important component of our commitment to managing and reducing our environmental impacts is an Environmental Management System – Green Dragon Level 5. This is the highest level achievable and is comparable to ISO 14001. Designed with five "steps", organisations are able to gain recognition as they progress with their environmental management.
Our environmental performance aims, and objectives, targets and outcomes; are reported publicly in the Annual Environmental Statement Report.
