Become a Green Impact Auditor!

Green Impact is a national environmental competition. It's all about staff teams in universities working together to improve their department's environmental impact. Once this annual programme finishes, participating teams must be audited.
Every year, in the Spring, we recruit student volunteer auditors to visit staff departments and conduct audits on our Green Impact teams. Each volunteer auditor will receive environmental auditor training and a free lunch!

Being a Green Impact Auditor is a great opportunity to gain experience in environmental auditing, meet like minded people and it looks great on your CV!

Register your interest in being a Green Impact Auditor by emailing This year's Green Impact auditing training is taking place on Wednesday 25th April.

Fairtrade Auditing

Are you interested in Fairtrade? Become a student auditor for the new Fairtrade University and College Award!

It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills in leadership, communication, public speaking and problem solving. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about Fairtrade and ethical consumption and meet new like-minded people.

Sustainability Committee

The primary governance function with respect to the University is the Sustainability Committee. This gives us a direct channel to Senior Management to influence decisions affecting the economic, environmental, cultural and social sustainability of the University. There are a wide range of opportunities for you to get involved, including student and union representation. The list of current invitees can be found here: Sustainability Committee Representation

UWTSD Energy Shutdown Events

The UWTSD Energy Shutdown Events are a campaign to raise awareness of energy waste on campus.

Held at the end of the Autumn and Spring terms, staff and students volunteer in a challenge to turn off all non-essential equipment (e.g. computers, printers, lights and phone chargers) that have been left on unnecessarily before the break.

We then compare how much energy we used over Christmas and Easter with previous years’ to show the carbon and cost savings that we can achieve, just by making a few small changes to the way we work!

This also a great opportunity to become involved with promoting UWTSD’s sustainable practices and it looks great on your CV!

If you’d like to volunteer at an Energy Shutdown event, please email
