As part of our Digital Services Strategy, IT&S have been working with Institutes and Professional Services to improve access to the S:\ drives (Department Shared Drives) that are used by the University. IT&S are working towards merging the two legacy SMU and TSD versions of the S:\ drives (Department Shared Drives) into a single location to simplify access & support requests.

Once this work is completed, it will form a stable platform for further work to migrate shared file storage into Microsoft Teams later in 2021.

How does this affect us?
In order for us to complete the work there will need to be a short outage, during which time the data stored within the S:\ drives (Department Shared Drives) will not be accessible to anyone.

When will this take place?
The work is scheduled to take place at 7am on Tuesday 9th February 2021. Although we plan for the work to be completed before 8:30am, we would consider access to the S:\ drives (Department Shared Drives) to be at risk until 12:30pm.

After the maintenance is completed, you will be able to access the Department Shared Drive as normal. If you are not able to access the Departmental Shared Drive after the maintenance window completes, please restart your device and the new Department Shared Drive should appear.
