Telephony |Screen Share | Virtual Meetings | Virtual Lectures | Central Hub | Collaborate | On your Mobile
We have successfully adopted Microsoft Teams as the primary mechanism for remote communications during lockdown. In order to improve user-experience we will be simplifying things further by introducing Teams telephony during the Autumn term. We will be consolidating chat and telephony into Teams and retiring the traditional MITEL phone system, along with Skype for Business. Following this migration Teams will become the hub for communication, be it meetings, chat, video calling, or traditional phone calls. During a turbulent time, the aim is to keep communicating with colleagues and students alike as simple as possible regardless of your location.
Microsoft Teams is a software-based solution. In order to respond to the unpredictability of COVID we will be issuing headsets as the primary device for receiving/placing telephone calls. These provide you ultimate flexibility, allowing us to deliver a system that can cope with an ad-hoc blend of home and campus working via your PC or laptop. Microsoft Teams is also available as an iOS or Android app for mobiles, providing additional flexibility to remain connected whilst mobile working.
There has been a successful pilot group made up of IT&S, Finance and the translation unit over the last few weeks and we are now ready to deploy this upgrade to all users over the next 5 weeks.
To support these additions to Teams functionality we have arranged for a specialist training provider to deliver Teams Voice and Chat training for the next 5 Wednesdays, from the 11th November.
To attend the first session please click on the following link:
Teams voice and chat training – Wednesday 18th November @ 11:00
Teams voice and chat training – Wednesday 25th November @ 16:00
Teams voice and chat training – Wednesday 2nd December @ 15:00
Alternatively, you can view a pre-recorded session.
There will be the opportunity to attend sessions both prior to your migration and then post migration to consolidate your learning.
Each user will receive an email notification prior to their migration providing online training resources and details of their migration.
