From the everyday support of WIAV’s staff, to our student facilities, we want to make sure that all our students enjoy their student experience.
We have a range of I.T. facilities and support for all students at WIAV. The University-wide network is available free of charge to all students, and across all campuses. The I.T. helpdesk is also available 24 hours a day for any I.T. issues.
The university issues all students with their own email address, computer storage and access to computers with a variety of software. Students will also receive access to a personalised online learning portal where they will be able to review their learning material, check assignments, and join online discussions.
WIAV has also invested in a number of online resources, including Grove’s online dictionary and IMSLP, which are invaluable to the student singer.
WIAV has a number of practice rooms which are available for students’ use throughout the day. Practice rooms can be booked at the main office. All practice rooms have a piano, music stand, and mirrors.
Student Common Room
WIAV is ideally situated close to a wide variety of cafes and restaurants but, if students don’t feel like venturing out, WIAV also has a Student Common room. Students have a relaxed place to catch up and chat with each other, whilst also being able to check the noticeboard for news and opportunities. The student common room facilities includes access to tea and coffee making facilities, microwave, and fridge.
Student Services and well-being
All WIAV staff are able to offer help and support to students with personal or academic queries. The WIAV office operates an ‘open-door’ policy so students can pop in to discuss any issues whenever they need. Student Support Workers also visit WIAV on a regular basis to support students in developing their academic work, and with any wellbeing issues. For any students seeking more formal counselling WIAV is able to provide this within the UWTSD system.
Students can be assessed for – or may wish to inform tutors of – any learning difficulties and learning support needs. The WIAV team can then make reasonable adjustments as required; adjustments may include additional time for assessments, scheduled support.
