Elevate Cymru Launch

Over 30 businesses attended the Elevate Cymru launch hosted by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David on Tuesday, 6 November 2012, at the National Botanical Gardens of Wales at Llanarthne, Carmarthen.

Elevate Cymru is part of the Work-based Learning programme, funded by the Convergence European Social Fund, through the Welsh Government and offers local businesses fully funded work related courses that encourage sustainability and future growth.

Andrew Edwards, Fellow of the University, opened the launch by introducing the project and explaining its relation to the Professional Practice Framework offered by the University’s Work-based Learning team. Employers can access short stand-alone modules tailored to their business needs and employees have the opportunity to complete a qualification up to master level.

The key-note speaker, Jane Davidson, former Minister for Environment and Sustainability for Wales, and current Director of INSPIRE (Institute for Sustainability, Practice, Innovation and Resource Effectiveness) outlined the importance of businesses responding to the Welsh Government’s sustainability agenda and how being sustainable can provide a competitive business advantage.

Delegates then attended workshops in Mindfulness, Coaching and Bilingualism as taster sessions of the modules available. Other modules being developed include areas of work-based learning research, prior experiential learning, project management, marketing, finance, human resources and social media.

Rhianon Washington, Lead Tutor for Elevate Cymru said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local employers to access fully funded, business focussed development for their staff directly linked to the workplace. Individuals can then progress to a full qualification from a Certificate of Higher Education (level 4) to a postgraduate qualification in Professional Practice (level 7).”
