Our Hospitality and Hotel Management degree aims to enhance lifelong learning skills and personal development so you can work with self-direction and originality and contribute to the hotel industry and society at large. The programme aims to produce graduates who are global citizens and who approach their personal and professional lives from a sustainable perspective.

The programme will develop your managerial and intellectual skills, including critical reasoning, analysis, creativity and reflection, so you can show an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the nature of hospitality and hotel management, the characteristics of the hotel guest and implications for the management of service encounters.

The programme aims to prepare you for a career, or career development, within the hotel and hospitality sector by developing appropriate professional skills. This is done by giving graduates the knowledge and understanding of the external environment and its effects at local, national and international levels upon the hospitality and hotel sectors.

You will graduate with a systematic understanding of the structure, management and marketing of organisations within the hospitality industry.

This programme provides hotel placements for students across the UK which is a compulsory part of the programme - providing you with industry employment experience.

What you will learn

Two semesters per academic year. Full-time students study 60-credits worth of modules per semester. Part-time students study 60-credits worth of modules per year

There are two modes of study: blended (majority on-campus) and distance (for the majority of study though placements are in person). At level 4 students study 120 credits-worth of taught modules.

At levels 5 and 6, students split their studies equally between taught modules and hotel-based practical placement modules, supplemented with induction and industry weeks that are on-campus or online, as appropriate to the mode of study.

    Grades are important however offers are not based solely on academic results. We are interested in creative and dedicated people who demonstrate a strong commitment to International Travel & Tourism as well as those with significant relevant work experience. To assess the suitability of a potential student we may arrange interviews for you to discuss with us your skills, achievements and life experiences.

  • The programme will be assessed through a structured mix of practical assessments, placements, case studies, events, management reports, presentations, essays, travel reviews, DVDs/videos, travel blogs, feasibility studies, projects,  bid pitches and the opportunity to plan, organise and assess travel and tourism trips & experiences.

    Assessments will wherever possible be designed to develop professional skills as well as developing critical thinking, leadership, management, guest service and team work in preparation for industry careers. The programme does NOT include examinations.

  • Our students have access to a diverse range of equipment and resources, which in most cases are sufficient to complete their programme of study. We provide the basic materials necessary for students to undertake their modules.

    However, hospitality, leisure and tourism students will likely incur some additional costs associated with field trips. Year to year these costs vary from £25 at level 4, to £500 at level 5 and up to £1,000 at level 6 however these are all subsidised.

  • Career development bursaries of up to £1,000 are available for students to support placements, internships and events volunteering. Students may also be eligible to apply for the Discover Project to support International Mobility to support short International Placement Experiences.
