Alice, who is originally from London came to UWTSD’s Lampeter campus to follow her passion for Classical history and mythology.

Alice said:

“I originally wanted to study Psychology after my A-levels, but then decided to follow my heart, and through the Clearing process, found Lampeter which had a focus on the humanities and classics.

“After a conversation with an academic over the phone, I knew I had found the degree and place for me, so I moved my city life to rural Lampeter, without even visiting.

“At first, the change from London to Lampeter was a huge shock. It was odd falling asleep to the sound of sheep rather than sirens, but I soon got used to it. I loved it there – it was a very special time.”

After graduating in 2017, Alice returned to London and soon started to apply for work.

She was surprised when she came across an application for a role at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s London campus, and felt drawn to apply.

Since joining the UWTSD family as a member of staff, Alice has gained several promotions and now works as a Senior Timetabling and Timesheets Officer, a role that she says is challenging but rewarding.

She said:

“To me, my work is just like solving a puzzle – putting parts together and coming out with an effective result. I really enjoy it.

“It’s great to be able to work back in my home city, for the same institution that I studied at in Wales. One of the great things about working here is that I still get to bump into former lecturers during cross-campus visits.

“The teaching and support staff at Lampeter helped me through many tough moments when I was a student that I am still so grateful for, so it’s great when I do see them again to be able to thank them, catch up and reminisce about the past.

“From my experience of studying and working at UWTSD, strong bonds tend to form between staff and students here. This is because they make the effort to get to know you as individuals which makes the student experience all that more special.

“Although Lampeter and London campus are very different, they share the same familiar feeling – full of friendly and approachable people, which is why enjoyed studying here, and love working here.”
