The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) and Rikkyo University in Japan have formalised their commitment to collaborative academic endeavours through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The signing of the MOU, which took place recently, signifies a commitment to strengthening academic ties and creating transformative opportunities for students and academic departments. Both universities share a vision of enriching the educational experience through global perspectives and cross-cultural engagement.

Rikkyo University offers UWTSD students the opportunity to study in Japan, immersed in Japanese culture but study through the medium of English. UWTSD students will have the opportunity to study The Global Liberal Arts Program which encourages students to pursue their own academic interests, to expand their academic horizons, and to deepen their understanding of theories and philosophies.

As part of this burgeoning collaboration, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David is poised to send its first students to Rikkyo University in January 2024. This milestone student exchange programme, supported by funding from Taith, showcases the dedication of both institutions to providing students with immersive international experiences. Taith’s generous support ensures that students can fully engage in the academic and cultural exchange, contributing to their personal and academic growth.

“The partnership between UWTSD and Rikkyo University holds immense potential for collaboration in various programmes, driven by our shared ethos and commitment to excellence in education,” says Kath Griffiths, International Regional Manager at UWTSD’s Wales Global Academy. “We believe that this collaboration will open new avenues for learning, research, and cultural exchange, benefiting students and academic staff on both sides. This initiative is expected to foster lasting connections, deepen cultural understanding, and contribute to the academic excellence of both institutions.”
