Enterprise and Social Innovation (BA Hons)
The BA (Hons) Enterprise and Social Innovation course helps you become a leader who can start and grow businesses that do good in the world. This course follows on from the CertHE Social Enterprise Management, building on what you learned there and taking your skills much further, so you can turn great ideas into real projects that help people and communities.
This course is taught fully online, so you can fit your studies around your life and work. It suits people who already work in enterprise or the social sector, as well as people who want to start a new career helping communities through business.
Social enterprise is growing fast across the UK. It is growing faster than many ordinary small businesses. This course prepares you to be part of that growth. You will learn how to design new projects, lead teams, manage money wisely, and measure the real difference your work makes. You will also learn how to think creatively, solve tricky problems, and make fair and ethical decisions as a leader.
By the end of the course, you will be ready to lead your own enterprise or social innovation project, or to take on senior roles in organisations that care about people and the planet.

What you will learn
This course mixes theory with hands-on practice. You will work on real projects, get support from expert tutors, and learn alongside other students from different backgrounds.
You will learn how to design new ideas together with the people they are meant to help, using creative thinking and co-production. You will discover how to market a social enterprise using digital tools and honest storytelling. You will study what good leadership and fair governance look like, and how to make ethical decisions when running an organisation.
You will explore how to turn a great idea into a working project, step by step, and how to measure the social impact your work creates. You will look at different ways the economy can work, including fairer and more sustainable models. You will also learn about volunteering and community teamwork, and how these strengthen social enterprises.
Near the end of the course, you will complete a large community project, where you will put everything you have learned into practice by working on a real piece of work that benefits a community.
By studying this course, you will graduate with the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills to lead innovative enterprises that create real social, environmental, and economic value.

English language requirements
If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.

Visa and funding requirements
If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa.
For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa.
International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship.

Please note students receiving US Federal Aid are only able to apply for in-person, on-campus programmes which will have no elements of online study.

The programme is assessed by a combination of innovative and more traditional methods which are designed to develop students’ understanding, problem-solving and creative thinking during the programme.
Assessments are closely linked to learning activities, where students build understanding and skills in weekly sessions and are able to learn from formative assessment throughout the programme.

It is possible to complete this programme of study without any additional costs.
Students may wish to purchase materials for modules, but this is not a requirement and will have no bearing on the final grade.

Study through the medium of Welsh or Bilingually
UWTSD prides itself on being a bilingual University and some modules in this course are available to study through the medium of Welsh either fully or partially. In all cases students will be able to submit written assessments through the medium of Welsh.
If you choose to study your course either fully or partially through the medium of Welsh, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries to support you with your studies.
The availability of Welsh medium modules is reviewed regularly and may vary each year depending on staffing, research interests, timetabling, student demand, and minimum enrolment numbers, so specific modules cannot always be guaranteed, get in touch to discuss more.
