UWTSD Branch

The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol creates training and study opportunities in Welsh by working with further education colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and employers. We inspire and encourage everyone to use their Welsh skills.

The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol aims to build a Welsh and bilingual education and training system open to all and to develop bilingual workforces.

UWTSD plays a key role in providing Welsh-medium higher education and has an active Branch of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. The Branch organises an offering of social events, from annual freshers and dinner events, to the social Choir and a coffee and chat gatherings for those looking to use their Welsh skills. In addition, the Branch offers linguistic and financial support to Welsh-speaking students.

The University also gives everyone who speaks Welsh the opportunity to enrol on the Welsh Language Skills Certificate which provides evidence to employers about your language skills and enriches your CV. Registration can be made on the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol website.

Y Porth

Y Porth is the Coleg Cymraeg’s collaborative e-learning platform. It was established in 2009 to encourage Universities to share Welsh medium teaching resources with each other. As a result, it has developed into a crucial hub for the studying and teaching of University courses through the medium of Welsh.

The Portal is based on Blackboard, and is open to staff and students at all Welsh universities.

It includes:

  • electronic resources and materials
  • web gallery
  • modules and support materials
  • a searchable portal of terms for higher education

Although the gateway contains a number of open resources, it is necessary to register as a user in order to access some resources (eg specific modules).
The process of registering as a user on the Gateway is easy. Follow the instructions on the home page of the Porth website.
