Over the next year, audiences will hear from internationally renowned philosophers and have an opportunity to engage in philosophical conversations on a range of contemporary topics in philosophy.

This Lecture Series is an exciting collaboration between the Philosophy Department at UWTSD and the Royal Institute of Philosophy.

Organiser of the Royal Institute of Philosophy Lecture Series programme at UWTSD is Dr Rebekah Humphreys.  She commented:

“This lecture Series provides a unique opportunity to hear from experts from across the world. It provides staff, students and members of our Lampeter, Carmarthen and Swansea communities with an opportunity to explore important topics through the insights of these renowned speakers.

Conversation on… Dreams

A Dream Salon, a happening, a multi-sensory event: choose a participant’s dream and then discuss it while you see it painted live by artist Julia Lockheart. DreamsID.com

For millennia, dreams have been a source of philosophical enquiry as well as being represented in and inspiring art works. This captivating event will enable participants to consider what it means to find meaning in a dream, as well as to experience the returning of a dream to its visual form, while also posing questions about what it means to be human.

With Prof. Julia Lockheart (UWTSD) and Prof. Mark Blagrove (Swansea University)

Time: 7.00 to 9.00pm.
Location: Noah’s Yard, 38 Uplands Crescent, Uplands, Swansea, SA2 0PB.

Booking required via Eventbrite.

Thursday March 28th 2024, 5-6.30 PM

Conversation on … critical thinking in health care ethics and law*

How do we decide what is valuable? Whose health matters more? How should we think about human embryo research? What about the termination of pregnancy, or genetic engineering? And how should we look after people as they approach the end of their lives? This presentation explores such difficult questions from the recently published book Fundamentals of Critical Thinking in Health Care Ethics and Law (Owl Press, 2023). While this presentation cannot engage with any of these topics in great depth, there will be an open conversation to whet the audience’s appetite to engage with the matters of this book in detail.
