As a student of the Professional Practice Framework (PPF), Rebecca has been an advocate for workplace safety throughout her career. Her commitment to developing a positive health and safety culture in heavy industry has earned her acclaim and recognition.

Rebecca’s journey towards enhancing workplace safety is exemplified through her comprehensive submission for experiential learning credits through the ‘Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning’ module, that has provided her with the equivalent of 2/3rds of a Degree in Professional Practice.

Rebecca said:

“Studying towards a Degree in Professional Practice has been a pivotal moment in my career and professional development. It has provided me with invaluable opportunities for reflection, growth, and validation of my expertise. Undertaking this programme has enhanced my skills, expanded my knowledge base, and opened doors to new possibilities within my field. When I spoke to the PPF team about undertaking a BA, I was amazed that I could design the content of the BA pathway around my interests. I was delighted to hear that I could claim up to 2/3rds of my award through claiming credit for the learning I had already undertaken whilst working.

“The recognition of experiential learning module has been instrumental in enriching my skillset and enhancing my effectiveness in my role. By formally acknowledging the value of my practical experiences, I’ve gained confidence in my abilities and a deeper appreciation for the insights gained through hands-on learning. This recognition has validated the significance of my contributions and empowered me to continue making meaningful impacts in my workplace.”

Sarah Loxdale, Senior Lecturer within the Professional Practice Framework team at UWTSD said:

“Rebecca’s unwavering commitment to workplace safety is not just a duty, but a testament to her dedication to the well-being of every individual in heavy industry. As we mark the Learning at Work Week, we celebrate her remarkable achievements, which stand as a beacon of excellence and inspiration for us all. The Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning module that enabled Rebecca to reflect on learning and skills is a journey of self-discovery which truly gives value to years of experience and celebrates individual achievements. Learners from all industries are able to study for an award in Professional Practice and claim up to 2/3rds for the learning they have already acquired whilst working.

As Rebecca reflects on her time as a student at UWTSD, she added:

“Through my journey with the Professional Practice Framework, I’ve come to understand that promoting workplace safety isn’t just a responsibility—it’s a profound commitment to the well-being of every individual in heavy industry. As we celebrate Learning at Work week, I’m deeply honoured to be recognised for my efforts in cultivating a positive safety culture. This recognition reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of proactive strategies, open dialogue, and continuous improvement.”
