The Childhood Youth and Education Studies discipline at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David  is looking forward to host their annual graduate evening and employability week.

Around forty Early Years graduands in academic robes stand in front of a Victorian Gothic arched stone doorway, smile, and hold their mortarboards.

This successful event provides an opportunity for past graduates to highlight what careers and experiences they have been engaged with since graduation. The employability week held between 22nd-27th of January provides an important opportunity for current students to see the range of careers available, and to share experiences with role models who have been on a similar study journey to themselves.

This year the graduates come from a range of different sectors and career roles including working with the NHS, Police, a Area Team Leader for the Cardiff Parenting Team, as well as a recent graduate continuing her education at UWTSD by studying for a PGCE.

Natasha Jones, Lecturer from the Early Years course said:

“Studying a degree in Childhood, Youth and Education offers many benefits. Most importantly it provides an understanding of child development and education, and by arranging an event such as our employability week we aim to increase job prospects, support our students as they seek to find jobs, and positively contribute to the community by providing the field with qualified, knowledgeable specialists in education.

“We hope that the employability week will provide an opportunity to explore different avenues, speaking to graduates through informative sessions that clarify details on the admission process and to provide confidence going forward. It’ll be a chance to ask questions, network and gather essential information for making informed decisions about educational and career journeys.

“We care for our students and hope to support them in pursuing their passion for working with children and young people, allowing them to positively influence the lives of children and their families.”

The graduate evening will be held on the 22nd of January at 5.30pm, and it has for several years been an opportunity to showcase the many employment and business ventures students have engaged with since graduation. The Childhood, Youth and Education Studies team are also delighted to hear so many success stories and to hear how students have gone on to influence children and young people’s wellbeing, rights, inclusion and learning across Wales and beyond.

Dr Nichola Welton Acting Academic Director said

“Our Employability week for Childhood Youth and Education is back for 2024, once again enabling students to engage in a full range of activities that will enhance their academic experience providing opportunities and experiences that will develop employability knowledge and skills.

“It will include inspiring guest lectures, accredited training opportunities (First Aid, Safeguarding),  attendance at careers fairs, sessions on postgraduate opportunities, and development of new skills through experiential learning workshops.”
