This training course offers a comprehensive understanding of children’s physical development, equipping you with the knowledge to apply it effectively in practice. 

You will deepen your expertise in promoting high-quality movement, enabling you to provide developmentally appropriate experiences for children and support families in the process. 

Through two expert-led, face-to-face workshops throughout the term, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with leading professionals, refine your approach, and tackle specific challenges unique to your school or setting.

This qualification is aimed teachers and professionals who:

  • Have a degree

  • Work with groups of children to reflect on implementation

  • Plan or manage programmes of physical development (whole class, or community group).

What you will learn

Key elements: 

Face-to-Face Training
You will need to attend two face-to-face training days over a term with theory and practical workshops. 

Distance Learning
Theories and content are introduced through an interactive online eLearning platform, which can be accessed in your own time. You will complete 5 hours of flexible online theory.

Equipment
To have maximum impact on children’s physical development, they need access to a range of appropriate equipment. We can support you with an audit of your current provision.

  • Physical development from birth to middle childhood, including sensory motor integration and developmental milestones

  • How movement contributes to wider child development, including cognitive development, social skills, language and communication, self-esteem, confidence and resilience

  • Approaches for developing a broad movement vocabulary which supports variety and quality in physical activity

  • Theories of motor development and how you can apply these through a range of strategies in your practice

  • How to analyse movement and create environments that support children’s physical development with a play-based, inclusive approach

  • Strategies for working with parents and caregivers to support their children’s development at home

  • Reflective report (2000 words)

    • Assessment through a reflective report enables you to gain a deep insight into how this process impacts on your practice and children’s outcomes

    Practical delivery (20 mins).

    • Deliver a practical task to peers during face-to-face training days.

    • Submit a plan and video evidence of delivering a physical development session to a group of children along with a brief self-evaluation.

  • £150 per person.
