Background

Donna Morgan is a senior lecturer and programme manager within the Digital Health and Care portfolio. She qualified as a Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities (RNLD) over 25 years ago and has since built a diverse and impactful career across both clinical and academic settings.  Donna holds a Post Compulsory Education and Training qualification (PCET) from Swansea Metropolitan University and a Master’s in Professional Practice (MAPP) from UWTSD. 

Donna began her teaching career at Gower College Swansea, where she taught across a wide range of Health and Social Care programmes,  she later joined UWTSD, where she now teaches and supervises across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  She is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education (EdD), with her research focusing on gender bias within health education. 

Her teaching is underpinned by a strong commitment to embedding academic skills to support student progression and success.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Donna’s professional background spans a wide range of clinical roles, from forensic nursing to managing residential services for adults with learning disabilities in the Channel Islands. She continues to practice as a bank nurse with Swansea Bay University Health Board, maintaining a vital connection between theory and practice. Her clinical experience informs her teaching and enhances her ability to support students preparing for careers in health and social care.

Her research interests centre on gender differences and potential unintentional bias within health education, particularly in nursing and allied health professions. Through her doctoral studies, Donna is exploring the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to gender bias in health education. She is also investigating the impact of integrating academic skills into first-year degree teaching and how this supports student development and retention.

External Recognition or Rewards

Donna works closely with external agencies including Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), Welsh Health Boards, Adult Learning Wales, and Agored Cymru. She is also building close working relationships and sharing best practice as an External Examiner for Hull University, and is the UWTSD representative on ‘Deaf Awareness Wales for Health Professionals and Students’ panel.

Donna was recently honoured with the Inspirational Colleague Award 2025 at UWTSD’s annual Nexus conference, recognising her dedication to students, colleagues, and the wider health education community.
