Background

Holly Slingsby is a visual artist working in performance, video and painting. She studied at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University; and the Slade School of Art, University College London. Her practice explores belief in a variety of contexts, as well as examining representations of women and the implications of those. Her visual language reflects a fascination with iconographic traditions, drawing on biblical imagery, mythologies, and contemporary culture.

Slingsby’s work has been screened, performed and exhibited at MAC Birmingham; Space52, Athens; Chapter, Cardiff; Tate St Ives; Turner Contemporary, Margate; CCC Barcelona; LABS Bologna; Matt’s Gallery, London; Spike Island, Bristol; Modern Art Oxford; Freud Museum, London; Bòlit, Centre d’Art Contemporani, Girona; Tintype, London; DKUK, London; Art Licks Weekend; ICA, London; and the Barbican, London. In 2023 she was joint winner of the Exeter Contemporary Open.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Holly Slingsby has over 15 years' experience as a practising artist, exhibiting throughout the UK and internationally. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and commissions. Her industry experience also includes working with leading contemporary arts organisations such as Matt's Gallery London; Conrad Shawcross Studio and Firstsite, Colchester. She has previously lectured at UWE Bristol and Winchester School of Art.

Holly is an active member of SCAR (Swansea College of Art Research), presenting work at conferences and exhibitions.
