Background

Julie brings more than two decades of experience in adult education, with a strong foundation in leadership and management roles prior to joining UWTSD in 2016.

Since 2012, she has specialised in coaching and mentoring, drawing on her extensive leadership background to design and deliver innovative learning programmes that support leaders, coaches, and managers across diverse sectors. She is also a trained Insights practitioner, and offers psychometric assessments to staff, students and the wider business community.

Julie is responsible for the leadership pathway within the Professional Practice Framework (PPF) and is Programme Manager for the MA Coaching and Mentoring and the university’s Chartered Manager Assessment Centre.

Julie is undertaking doctoral research focused on the development of adult learners and professional coaches. Her thesis investigates the lived experiences of work-based learners and professional coaches using visual notetaking for critical reflection.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Julie has a wealth of experience in delivering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and training to professional leaders and coaches, consistently tailoring content to meet the evolving needs of individuals and organisations.

Prior to working in education, she worked as a manager in the retail sector and as a freelance artist. Subsequently, her doctoral studies integrate her passions of art and academia, as she seeks to investigate the value of employing visual methodologies to enhance critical reflection.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Julie plays an active role in the development of bespoke accredited and non-accredited learning programmes for both internal staff and external clients, ensuring that learning solutions are impactful, relevant, and aligned with strategic goals. Julie also works for a global professional accreditation body for business coaches, and reports to the Board on the suitability of coaching programmes from around the world.
