Philip Scott
Background
Professor Philip Scott worked in the NHS for 15 years, gaining his MSc in Health Information Systems from the University of Portsmouth in 2003 and completing his PhD there in 2009. He became a Senior Lecturer at University of Portsmouth and was promoted to Reader in Health Informatics in 2019. He joined UWTSD in 2022 and was appointed Professor of Digital Health & Care in 2023.
Philip is Deputy Editor of BMJ Health & Care Informatics, Vice President of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), Board member of HL7 UK and Past Chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) Faculty of Health & Care. He was a non-executive Board member of the Professional Record Standards Body and member of the informatics committee of the Royal College of Radiologists.
Philip’s extensive operational, managerial and research experience help to inform his teaching in our MSc Digital Transformation and his PhD supervision.

Professional and/or Research Experience
He was a co-author of the first version of the International Patient Summary specification from HL7.
He is currently leading work with NICE on making their clinical guidelines computable and concluding a project evaluating a decision support app to optimise hospital anti-microbial prescribing.
Philip's PhD students have studied electronic health record deployment in developing countries, design features for chronic disease apps, DevOps in the public sector and hospital e-prescribing to support anti-microbial stewardship.
