When Stuart Davies-Jaynes decided to return to university while leading a busy HR team at Bluestone National Park Resort, it wasn’t about adding another qualification to his CV. It was about challenging his perspective, deepening his strategic insight, and continuing to grow as a leader;  goals that led him to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) and its MA in Strategic People Management.

The postgraduate programme, which includes a Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s pathway, focuses on developing advanced leadership, decision-making, and organisational strategy skills. For Stuart, it’s been an opportunity to combine academic learning with real-world application  enhancing his ability to lead people, influence change, and shape long-term organisational success. He said:

“As a senior HR professional, it’s important to keep learning and adapting. I wanted a programme that would challenge my perspective, enhance my ability to drive organisational change, and provide me with the latest insights into strategic HR leadership.”

Stuart was already familiar with UWTSD’s strong reputation in HR and leadership education. Bluestone has worked closely with the university for several years, supporting colleagues to complete CIPD Level 3 and 5 qualifications. When it came to his own professional development, UWTSD was the natural choice. He adds:

“The university’s reputation for excellence in HR and leadership education, combined with its strong industry links, makes it the ideal choice for professionals at all levels who want to invest in their career development.”

As a student, Stuart praises the lecturers for their continued support for his development.

“The lecturing team at UWTSD is outstanding, bringing extensive industry experience, up-to-date knowledge, and a forward-thinking approach to every session. Their ability to translate complex concepts into practical, workplace-ready strategies has been invaluable.

“Additionally, the peer-to-peer learning environment has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the programme, fostering valuable discussions, knowledge-sharing, and the formation of lifelong professional relationships. UWTSD has exceeded my expectations, offering a dynamic and engaging learning experience that seamlessly connects theory with real-world application.”

Balancing postgraduate study with a demanding senior role isn’t without its challenges, but Stuart says the university’s flexibility and facilities make a real difference.

“The modern learning spaces, great library access, and flexible approach make it possible to study around work commitments,” he said.

Outside work and study, Stuart is a member of the Institute of Directors Wales and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, walking, travelling, and exploring new places to unwind and recharge.

He believes the course has already had a direct impact on his role at Bluestone.

“Studying while working has allowed me to apply what I learn straight away. It’s helped me develop evidence-based people strategies and strengthened my confidence as a strategic leader,” he said.

Following on from the course Stuart has not only improved his professional skills but it also led to him appearing in People Management magazine and upgrading to Fellow of the CIPD.

Natasha Davies, Lecturer in Human Resources Management at UWTSD said:

“It is always inspiring to see the accomplishments of our students not just professionally but also in themselves. The Strategic People Management course enables students to step outside their comfort zone and with students like Stuart who fully embrace it, then we can see their journey can be one of professional transformation.”

Julie Thomas, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and CIPD Programme Manager  added:

“It is fantastic to hear that Stuart’s experience of our programme has been so positive. We are very grateful to Bluestone for supporting many of its employees to attend our courses over the years and continue to be impressed with their achievements both during and after their programme of studies. We are immensely proud of Stuart and can only see him going from strength to strength.”

Stuart would recommend UWTSD to anyone looking to develop their HR or leadership career.

“It’s practical, relevant, and genuinely focused on helping professionals grow. UWTSD has created an environment where learning really connects with the realities of the workplace, and that makes all the difference.”
