Music creative alumna launches new vocal training app
Juliet Russell, a leading voice specialist and University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) alumna, has launched an innovative vocal training app, ‘Do Your Sing,’ designed to equip contemporary singers with evidence‑based techniques through accessible, engaging exercises.
Juliet studied an MA in Professional Practice (Voice Pedagogy) with UWTSD and the Voice Study Centre via remote learning, an experience she credits as pivotal in shaping her approach to coaching and app development.
She said: “Completing the MA really focused my research skills and upgraded my knowledge of contemporary voice science. I don’t think I’d have created Do Your Sing without it.”
Juliet’s career is eclectic and rooted in her experience as a singer, shaped by her fascination with the power of voice to connect people. Her performance work has taken her from writing and recording in Mumbai with Bollywood composer Aadesh Shrivastava to singing at Glastonbury and appearing on stage with a Grammy Award–winning artist in Las Vegas.
Today, she brings that lived experience to high‑profile coaching and creative direction, serving as a vocal coach on BAFTA‑winning shows including The Voice UK and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, as well as Netflix’s Building The Band. She has worked with BRIT, Grammy, Mercury Prize, MOBO and MTV Europe Award–winning artists, and is passionate about artist development — supporting singers to find their unique voice while building confidence and sustainable performance skills.
The inspiration for ‘Do Your Sing’ grew from Juliet’s long‑running commitment to sharing practical coaching online through her popular “Tuesday Tutorials” on Instagram. Created to offer singers regular, meaningful guidance, these short sessions reflect her belief in using digital platforms to share knowledge. That approach directly informs the app, which provides a creative vocal toolkit for contemporary singers and artists.
‘Do Your Sing’ combines Juliet’s extensive industry experience with evidence‑based voice science, guiding users through four stages of vocal performance: warm‑ups, workouts, vocal effects and cool‑downs. Each exercise is supported by a video coaching tutorial, helping singers understand not only what to sing, but how to sing it and why it matters.
Juliet sees technology as a powerful way to widen access to high‑quality vocal training.
She said: “Coaching can be expensive, so this app offers creative, science‑informed training at a more accessible price point.” While technology can’t replace bespoke one‑to‑one coaching, Juliet believes it can enhance connection and learning, making professional techniques available to singers wherever they are.
As Juliet continues to innovate in vocal pedagogy, we are proud to celebrate her achievements and the impact of her work on the global music community.
