Students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Psychology and Counselling programmes welcomed members of the local community to a festive Christmas Snowcase at the Phoenix Centre, Townhill.

Two excited and happy children learning about Psychology at a Christmas showcase with writing materials and crafts on the table.

The event combined seasonal fun with insightful introductions to psychological research and wellbeing, creating an engaging and accessible experience for attendees of all ages.

Visitors took part in a range of interactive, Christmas-themed activities, including guessing the length of tinsel, testing their memory skills through the popular “Grinch and the Naughty Reindeers” memory recall game, and learning practical strategies for coping with the stresses often associated with the Christmas period. A highlight of the event was the Self-Actualisation Tree, where participants added decorative baubles to represent personal goals, strengths, and aspirations.

The Snowcase provided the International students with an opportunity to showcase how psychological theory and research can be applied to real-life situations, while also encouraging conversations around mental wellbeing during the festive season.

Dr Ceri Phelps, Programme Manager for Psychology at UWTSD, said: “The Christmas Snowcase was a fantastic example of our students using their knowledge and creativity to engage with the wider community. Events like this allow psychology to come alive outside the classroom, and they demonstrate how understanding human behaviour and wellbeing can make a real difference, particularly during what can be a demanding time of year.”

The event was well received by attendees and reflected UWTSD’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, student-led learning, and promoting mental wellbeing through education.
