UWTSD Showcases Higher Education Opportunities at Childhood, Youth and Education Event
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) Childhood, Youth and Education team recently welcomed pupils and students from schools and colleges across South West Wales to a programme of workshops designed to introduce them to higher education study and the opportunities available at the University.

The event enabled participants to engage in a variety of interactive sessions which emphasised the development of problem-solving, creativity and critical thinking skills. It also provided an opportunity to highlight UWTSD’s approach to experiential learning, which extends beyond traditional lectures and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across the wider Institute of Education and Humanities.
Workshops included activities that drew on expertise from across subject areas, such as the history of childhood in partnership with Humanities and Early Years specialists, and the study of family within a changing society informed by Sociology, History and Education perspectives. Participants also experienced the University’s digital and immersive learning provision, reflecting the institution’s commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.

The event additionally served as a platform to discuss forthcoming programmes, including new course provision for 2026, and to explore the benefits of interdisciplinary and connected study.
The team are eager to establish the event as an annual fixture, to showcase the fantastic opportunities available at UWTSD, and to support local schools and colleges to be able to get the experience and answers they need when considering HE study in the future.
Support from UWTSD’s Reaching Wider team enabled schools and further education colleges to attend through the provision of funded transport, ensuring wide participation across the region.
Natalie Macdonald, UWTSD’S Childhood, Youth and Education Academic Director said:
“It has been wonderful to welcome students from schools and colleges across South Wales at the start of an exciting year ahead. Developing our FE partnerships is a key priority for us as we redevelop our Childhood, Youth and Education offer at UWTSD.
“Our team in Childhood, Youth and Education are experts in their field and actively contribute to research and policy, shaping the practice for early years, education and youth work. This knowledge and expertise is embedded in our programmes providing students with the depth, skills and practice for future and current employment.”
