Master Of Architecture (Part-time) (MArch)

Swansea
3 Years Part-time
2:2 honours degree

Design With Purpose and Shape What Comes Next.
Architecture shapes how we live - how we connect, how we thrive, and how we respond to the world’s biggest challenges. Our MArch invites you to push your thinking further, exploring how thoughtful design can improve lives, strengthen communities, and create a more equitable, sustainable future.

On this course, you will investigate the impact of architecture on people, places and the planet. You will experiment, challenge assumptions, and use your creativity to address urgent issues like climate resilience, social justice, and spatial wellbeing. This is a programme for those who believe design can make a real and lasting difference.

Take Your Design Ambitions Further
Building on your undergraduate experience, the MArch helps you refine your practice, deepen your critical thinking, and shape your own architectural identity.  Exploring what kind of architect you want to become — developing a clear design voice, strong values, and a forward-looking understanding of the profession.

A Studio Environment That Mirrors Practice
Learning happens through immersive studio culture, just as it does in leading architecture practices. You will work on ambitious design projects, tackle live briefs, and collaborate with communities and partners beyond the discipline. Learning through making, prototyping, testing, and reflecting — developing the confidence and skillset needed for contemporary practice.

Design as a Tool for Change
This course suits those who care about community, environmental responsibility, and the social role of architecture. We champion design that matters - thoughtful, contextual, and rooted in collaboration. If you are driven by the idea of using architecture as an agent for positive change, you will find your place here.

A Complete Architectural Pathway
We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate routes within the same institution, giving you a clear pathway toward professional qualification as an architect. You can choose to study full-time or part-time, allowing you to shape your studies around your life and ambitions.

01
Live projects: You will work on real briefs with real communities. This makes your work more relevant, and gives you the chance to make a difference while you study.
02
Collaborative learning: Our studio is a shared space where ideas are exchanged every day. You’ll learn from your tutors, your classmates, and the wider university community.
03
Critical design: We focus on ideas as well as buildings. You’ll explore ethics, politics, and people as part of your design process.

What you will learn

Our Philosophy

We believe in learning through making, critical thinking, and collaboration. You will be encouraged to think for yourself, challenge the norm, and design in ways that are creative, meaningful, and responsible.

You’ll begin by exploring ideas and values that shape architecture today. Studio projects will help you think about real places and people. You’ll learn how to do research, develop your own design approach, and think about how design connects to culture, ethics, and the environment.

In your final year, you’ll take on a large, personal design project. You will work with others to test ideas, and produce a major piece of work that shows who you are as a designer. You’ll also reflect on your design thinking, get ready for working life, and build your skills in communication and critical reflection.
