Background

Mrs Angharad Lewis is a professionally qualified youth worker and has been a Lecturer in Youth Work at UWTSD since 2006, with teaching rooted in extensive practice. Her academic and professional practice is underpinned by five years of experience as a school-based youth worker and over three years leading two youth clubs, where she developed safe, supportive spaces for young people. At a national level, she worked as a National Development Officer for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, strengthening Welsh language provision, creating resources, and increasing youth participation.

Beyond employment, she has volunteered widely, including with youth clubs and organisations supporting young people with disabilities. These experiences give her a broad, practical understanding of Youth and Community Work, grounded in its core principles and values. She is passionate about supporting young people’s growth and is firmly committed to inspiring and equipping the next generation of youth workers.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Mrs Angharad Lewis has actively contributed to a range of research projects at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where her Welsh language skills have enabled her to support inclusive studies through facilitating focus groups and conducting semi-structured interviews in Welsh. Her research roles have centred on data collection within key projects such as the Review of the Youth Service in Merthyr and in Gwynedd (UWTSD/NFER), the Ysgol y Preseli/Harvard Wellbeing Project, and the Review of the Cost Benefit of Youth Work in Wales. These projects involved engaging young people, practitioners, and stakeholders, ensuring Welsh voices were accurately represented in findings that shaped recommendations and policy discussions. Her MA research examined the extent to which youth work can promote the social use of the Welsh language among young people, reflecting her dual focus on youth work and language.
