Background

Stuart has been teaching on Psychology programmes in addition to other programmes at UWTSD since 2010 and has contributed to the delivery and supervision on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Previously, Stuart worked as a lecturer at the University of Glamorgan, lecturing on the BSc Sport Science programme. He also worked as a Health Psychology researcher for a funded collaborative project with the University of Bath and North Wiltshire NHS exploring the feasibility of peer mentoring within a community-based exercise initiative of patients living with COPD. This lead to the development of a Manual for Peer Mentors issued by North Wiltshire NHS.

At UWTSD, Stuart has been a programme manager of several programmes and has held positions on many committees including the Research Degrees Committee and the Research Committee. Stuart was a member of the Universities Ethics Committee from (2016-2022) having chaired the Committee between 2019 and 2022.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Stuart has 20 years of experience in academia and has a teaching portfolio covering a wide range of areas at undergraduate and postgraduate level including Sport and Health Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Neuroscience, Research Methods and Mental Health. Previously, he worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team in training peer mentors exploring exercise adherence and COPD, leading to the creation of a Manual for Peer Mentors issued by North Wiltshire NHS.

At UWTSD, Stuart has represented a number of committees, including as the Chair of the University Research Ethics Committee. As a programme manager, he has been involved in the development and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the field of Psychology.

Stuart is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society, a STEMNET STEM Ambassador and is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Stuart is a HEA fellowship mentor, guiding peers on the HEA and applying for fellowship.
