Background

As the former director of academic discipline of Social Justice and Inclusion (2015–2018) and Social Policy, Youth and Communities (2018–July 2020), Sue has had significant experience across a range of of programmes.  She has particular interest in inclusion, equity and the promotion and support of positive mental health and wellbeing. Sue enjoys working collaboratively with students, where the sharing of individual experiences and understanding can encourage a dynamic and creative learning environment.

Sue is a qualified teacher and was the Head of Foundation Phase and ALNCO at a large primary school which included a Flying Start setting and a learning resource centre for children with autism.

Professional and/or Research Experience

Sue's research has a strong focus on educational equity and practice. Her work includes exploring children's rights, particularly amplifying the voices of learners with additional needs. She has conducted research into Restorative Practice and its potential to foster positive behavioural change in educational settings. Additionally, Sue has investigated assessment methodologies, comparing the use of grade marks with percentage-based marking systems to evaluate their impact on student outcomes and perceptions.
