Project outline

Energist Ltd, a global leader in nitrogen plasma technology, partnered with ATiC and Swansea University Medical School’s Healthcare Technology Centre (HTC) to explore a new, drug-free treatment for chronic acne. The goal: to develop a fast, painless alternative to traditional pharmaceutical approaches, which can carry long-term side effects.

The project focused on advancing Energist’s NeoGen™ Plasma system, a device designed to deliver targeted, non-invasive treatment. ATiC’s role was twofold—capturing treatment area data and conducting a comprehensive user experience (UX) and ergonomic evaluation.

ATiC’s Contribution:

ATiC applied its research and prototyping expertise to assess the device’s usability and clinical performance..

ATiC’s expertise:

  • Conducted an in-depth UX study using thermal imaging, mobile eye tracking, and prototyping tools.
  • Evaluated the ergonomics and controllability of the NeoGen™ Plasma device, focusing on clinician comfort, fatigue, and procedural efficiency.
  • Analysed current treatment practices to identify risks of over- or under-treatment and inform improvements in patient outcomes.

Impact:

This collaboration helped Energist refine the NeoGen™ system for clinical use, supporting its journey toward market readiness and offering a promising new solution for acne care.
