UWTSD Digital Leader Recognised in CIO 100 UK 2026
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is proud to announce that James Cale, Director of Digital and Information Services, has been recognised in the prestigious CIO 100 UK 2026 awards.
The awards recognise the UK’s leading digital and technology executives for innovation, leadership, and the successful delivery of organisational transformation through technology. The annual list is considered one of the sector’s most respected benchmarks of excellence in digital leadership.
James’ inclusion reflects both his leadership and UWTSD’s commitment to using digital innovation to enhance the student and staff experience, support teaching and learning, strengthen organisational resilience, and embrace emerging technologies responsibly.
James said: “It’s a real privilege to be included alongside such an impressive group of digital and technology leaders from across the UK, and something I’m personally very proud of. While the CIO 100 recognises individual leadership, achievements like this are never delivered by one person.
“I’m fortunate to lead a fantastic Digital and Information Services team and to work with colleagues from across the University who share our ambition for what digital can enable. Over recent years, our focus has been on ensuring digital is much more than technology and infrastructure. It is about improving the experience of our students and staff, enabling new approaches to learning and teaching, strengthening our digital and cyber resilience, making better use of data, and embracing opportunities such as AI in a responsible and sustainable way.
“I’m particularly proud of the progress we’ve made in student experience, reflected in the significant improvements in our NSS results; our work to embed immersive technologies and digital pedagogy within the curriculum; and the development of our institutional approach to responsible AI.
“None of that happens without talented teams, strong partnerships and colleagues willing to challenge established ways of working.”
