Background

Born and educated in South Wales, Owen obtained his BSc in Particle Physics and Cosmology at Swansea University. He studied his Master’s in Research in the Materials Engineering department at Swansea University, staying there to complete a PhD in material physics with EPSRC funding and support from the nuclear power industry.

Owen’s main areas of expertise these days are in motorcycle dynamics, where he leads a small research group studying the influence of rider inputs on vehicle response. He works with advanced data measurement platforms on high-performance motorcycles and is trying to develop an accurate vehicle simulation platform for motorcycles.

In addition to this, Owen has an interest (and a significant teaching load) in the development and simulation of the internal combustion engine, with a particular interest in hydrogen combustion as a viable alternative to battery electric vehicle technology for motorcycle applications.
