Below are details of the scholarships and bursaries that are available to our undergraduate students

 

Academic Excellence Scholarship

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time Students 
Awarding Criteria: Scholarship available to first-year undergraduate students who have attained at least three A’s at A-level, or Triple Distinction at BTEC Level 3, directly prior to entry on a full-time, undergraduate degree course.
Award Amount: Up to £500
Last date for Applications:  23/10/2020
Additional Information: Application to include supporting evidence.
The bursary is paid in two instalments – 50% in semester 1 and 50% in semester 2.

Care Leaver Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Undergraduate and Postgraduate students (Full Time and Part Tme) from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: To assist with initial costs of resources and equipment, available to undergraduate and postgraduate students, aged 18-25, entering university from a care background.
Award Amount: Up to £1,000

Childcare Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Postgraduate and Undergraduate students
Awarding Criteria: Bursary available to campus-based students who have children and who are not eligible for  Child Care Tax Credits.
Please note that this bursary is means-tested
Award Amount: Up to £500

Constituent College Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduates from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: A progression bursary for students from Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion who are enrolling on the first year of a full-time undergraduate programme at UWTSD
Award Amount: Up to £500
Last date for Applications:  23/10/2020

The bursary is paid in two instalments – 50% in semester 1 and 50% in semester 2.

Diagnostic Testing Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full Time and Part Time Students from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: Bursary available to students requiring assistance with the costs of diagnostic assessment
Award Amount: Up to £350
Last date for Applications:  Students can apply at any time
Additional Information: Students will need to provide a copy of the student Finance entitlement letter

Digital Connectivity Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full Time and Part Time students enrolled on a course at UWTSD.

Awarding Criteria:

Bursary available to students requiring assistance with the costs of digital connectivity.
Support available:
    • A UWTSD Microsoft Surface Go (Intel Pentium Gold Processor, 64GB Solid State Drive, 4GB RAM) will be provided to qualifying students for the duration of their course.
      • Device ownership will be retained by the University and will be managed by IT&S.
      • At the end of a period of study students who have completed over 240 credits are eligible to take over ownership of the device allocated to them.
    • The Microsoft Surface Go is awarded to provide access to the University Microsoft Office infra-structure and ensure access to Moodle, the Hwb and other online University services. It is not possible to exchange this device for an alternative, and this bursary is not designed to support requests for specialist equipment. Students should discuss any requirements for specialist equipment with programme staff in their academic Institute.
    • The Microsoft Surface Go device is provided without any additional peripherals. For students wanting to add a keyboard, this can be done at relatively low cost, which an option such as this

    (Arteck Microsoft Surface Go Type Cover, Ultra-Slim Portable Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard provided as an example, other merchants and keyboards are available).

  • Up to £100 grant per annum to support the purchase and installation of home broadband
    or up to £100 grant per annum to support the purchase of mobile broadband.
  • Interim support of a loan device and access to short-term pre-paid mobile broadband where required.
  • Referral to Welsh Government grants and schemes to support high speed internet access as appropriate.
  • Device allocation will be subject to terms and conditions.

Device Eligibility Criteria:
This bursary is designed to support enrolled students who:

  • Do not have access to suitable electronic devices in order to access and utilise UWTSD Moodle, Hwb and Microsoft Office online suite of tools, including Teams
    and
  • Are able to demonstrate that cost is a barrier to purchasing a device personally.

Connectivity Eligibility Criteria:
This bursary is designed to support enrolled students who:

  • Do not have access to suitable domestic broadband (or live in areas not currently covered by UK broadband providers) to support engagement in remote learning
    and
  • Are able to demonstrate that cost is a barrier to purchasing broadband personally.

Educational Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduates from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: Bursary available to full-time undergraduates who require assistance with course-related costs
(placement travel, specialist books and equipment, etc.)
Award Amount: Up to £200

Estranged Student Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full Time and Part Time Students from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: Bursary for students aged 18 to 25 who are estranged from their families. 
Award Amount: Up to £1,000

Institute of Education and Humanities Bursary
– Childhood Studies

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time and part-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Undergraduate students enrolling in the discipline of Childhood and Education. Applications are welcomed from prospective students who wish to study on one of our programmes, whether on campuses at Carmarthen or Swansea or a learning centre in Cardiff. 
They are available to both part time and full time UG students, for both Welsh and English medium programmes and to those who want to study on a two year ‘flexi’ course or a 3 year programme and are enrolling on the first year of their course in 2020-21..
Award Amount: Up to £350 
Last date for Applications:  31/08/2020 
Additional Information: This award is paid in two instalments: (£200 in semester 1 and £150 in semester 2)

Institute of Education and Humanities Bursary
– Education

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time and part-time students 
Awarding Criteria:

Students enrolling in the discipline of Teacher Education.
Applications are welcomed from students who wish to study on one of our programmes on the Carmarthen or Swansea campuses (either Education Studies or the PGCE course).
Applications are encouraged for both Welsh and English medium programmes.  

The award is open to students enrolling on the first year of their course in 2020-21.

Award Amount: Up to £1,000

– Humanities

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time and part-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Undergraduate students enrolling in the discipline of Humanities.
Applications are welcomed from students who wish to study on one of our programmes on the Lampeter campuses.
They are available to both part time and full time students and to students who would like to study on one of the Humanities Foundation courses and will be enrolling on the first year of their course in 2020-21.
Award Amount: Up to £500

– Psychology and Counselling

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time and part-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Undergraduate students enrolling in the discipline of Psychology and Counselling whether on the Swansea or Carmarthen campuses. The bursary is only open to students enrolling on the first year of their course in 2020-21.
Award Amount: Up to £1,000

– Youth and Community

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time and part-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Undergraduate students enrolling in  discipline of Youth and Community. Applications are welcomed from prospective UG students enrolling on the first year of their course in 2020-21 and who meet one or more of the following criteria: over 21, BME, LAC, part-time, have a Disability, are from a low participation neighbourhood or Welsh Medium. 
Award Amount: Up to £500

- Business School Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Available to UK/EU students enrolling on the first year of a full-time undergraduate Business programme of two years or more (Dip HE, HND, FdA, FdSc, BA, BSc) at UWTSD Swansea or Carmarthen.
Eligible applicants are those who have become unemployed in the key sectors of Business, Tourism, Leisure, Events, Sport and Hotel Management as a result of the CO-VID 19 situation and are looking to return to HE in order to upskill.
Award Amount: Up to £1,000 
Last date for Applications:  September 2020 
Additional Information: These scholarships will be awarded to applicants based upon an evaluation of their bursary application and associated interview.
These scholarships will be paid in two instalments: 50% on successful bursary application and interview and 50% at the end of the first semester based on attendance and attainment.

– Cynefin Outdoor Adventure Education Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Available to first year (level 4) students enrolling on the first year of the full-time undergraduate Outdoor Education programme of two years or more (Dip HE, HND, FdA, FdSc, BA, BSc) at UWTSD Carmarthen
Award Amount: Up to £500
Last date for Applications:  September 2020
Additional Information: This bursary is designed to help to cover the additional costs incurred by first year students on the BA Outdoor Adventure Education programme.
This bursary will take the form of a voucher for appropriate equipment or training.

Institute of Management and Health
– Hotel Management Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduate students 
Awarding Criteria: Available to UK/EU students enrolling on the first year of a full-time undergraduate International Hotel Management programme of two years or more (Dip HE, HND, FdA, FdSc, BA, BSc) at UWTSD Swansea.
Eligible applicants are those who have become unemployed in the key sectors of Business, Tourism, Leisure, Events, Sport and Hotel Management as a result of the CO-VID 19 situation and are looking to return to HE in order to upskill.
Award Amount: Up to £1,000

Internship Bursary

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Full-time undergraduate students from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: Available to full-time undergraduate students wishing to gain additional, relevant work experience with a company that cannot offer paid employment.
  • Assists with travel and/or accommodation costs.
  • Includes INSPIRE and Enterprise Internships but not the compulsory work placement element of your course

Welsh-medium/Bilingual Scholarship

Applicable to the Following Student Group(s) Undergraduate students (Full Time and Part Time) from the UK/EU
Awarding Criteria: Awarded to full-time undergraduate students who undertake all or part of their studies through the medium of Welsh/bilingually:
£50 per 10 credits successfully completed through the medium of Welsh/bilingually
(modules must be minimum 50% bilingual)
Award Amount: Part Time:  Up to £400
Full Time:   Up to £600 (or £900 in intensive two-year degree programmes)

Additional Information: Please note that students who are already in receipt of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol
Scholarships will not be eligible for the first £500 of this scholarship and will only be awarded the ‘top-up’ element.

Young Adult Carer Bursary

Awarding Criteria: Bursary for students aged 18 to 25 who are registered as young adult carers for family members
