Charlotte's UWTSD Experience
Charlotte's BSc (Hons) Motorsport Management Experience
What was your favourite thing about Swansea campus?
The workshop. I loved being in the workshop and being able to ask endless questions. Spending time there, working alongside engineering students, learning about the cars and gaining hands-on experience had a big impact on me. It really helped me understand how motorsport operates day to day and allowed me to learn things that simply can’t be replicated in a classroom.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
At the time, UWTSD was the only university offering Motorsport Management without a major engineering component. When I came across the course at a motorsport event, I picked up a prospectus, turned to Motorsport Management, and knew almost instantly it was what I wanted to do. It made motorsport accessible while still being firmly rooted in the industry.
What do you enjoy outside your studies?
I really enjoyed getting involved with the race teams. I was able to get hands-on experience, work closely with engineering students, learn more about the cars, attend race meetings and gain an understanding of race weekends. Volunteering with the Motorsport Industry Association was also invaluable, as it gave me the opportunity to attend events and work with the industry while studying.
What are you doing now, how did you get to where you are and how has your course helped you in your career?
After graduating, I worked for the Motorsport Industry Association, supporting the wider team across multiple business areas and running my own events, before moving to Rockingham Motor Speedway and volunteering with the BRSCC. Following Rockingham’s closure in 2018, I moved into the composites industry while running my own championship with the BRSCC, and later joined the BRSCC permanently, managing paddock-side operations and events. In 2025, I stepped away for a reset, which led to the opportunity to move to Australia and work at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park (The Bend), supporting motorsport operations and event delivery. My course helped by combining academic study with hands-on experience, particularly through race teams and volunteering.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
Getting involved with the race teams was one of the most influential aspects of the course. They taught me so many things that cannot be taught in a classroom. I also really enjoyed the engineering modules. They were always interesting and proved far more useful than I ever expected in my career. Having practical experience alongside the academic side made a huge difference.
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I would recommend both the university and the course. UWTSD gave me some amazing opportunities to further my career. As meaningful as the degree is, having real-world experience is what sets you apart, and the course encouraged getting involved as early as possible. Without the opportunities I had, particularly volunteering and industry exposure, my career path may have been very different.
Charlotte White never expected a career in motorsport, but a chance encounter with UWTSD at a Silverstone event set her on a new path. After graduating in Motorsport Management in 2015, she built an international career in a male‑dominated industry and now coordinates the South Australian Motor Racing Championship. In this story, she reflects on the pivotal moments and opportunities that shaped her journey.
