Ioan Jeffries's UWTSD Experience
Ioan's BSc Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change Experience
What is your favourite thing about Swansea campus?
My favourite thing about the IQ campus is its location on the marina right next to the bay. It’s still close to town and right on the waters edge. Very scenic and chill compared to the inner city campuses.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I’d previously studied IT in college but came to find I didn’t enjoy working on computers and being stuck inside all day and so thought further education wasn’t for me. After working for a few years and visiting my friends in uni at UWTSD, I decided I’d have another look at university and finding a course that would be better suited to my interests. This is how I found the environmental course in Swansea.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I’m hoping to have a career in river management or water quality control to help protect our fragile river systems in Wales. I’d love to work within Wales potentially for NRW or dwr Cymru.
What do you enjoy outside your studies?
I work part time as a landscape gardener, and I love to do anything and everything outdoors like hiking and camping as well as kayaking. I also volunteer with the rivers trust when I can.
What is your favourite thing about BSc Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change?
My favourite thing about the course is the frequent field work we get to do outside of the classroom. There is a lot of practical hands-on learning which for me is a lot more effective than just classroom style learning.
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
Yes, I’d recommend UWTSD because there is a much more personal teaching style which really helps keep me engaged and my fellow students and staff make it really fun and enjoyable.
