Matt's BA Automotive & Transport Design Experience
What was your favourite thing about the Swansea campus?
The Automotive Design Studio provides a great place to work alongside the other year groups. This allows less experienced students to benefit from the knowledge of others. Every student has their own desk they can customise meaning there’s always a comfortable place to work.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
The smaller class sizes allow lecturers to be much more interactive with each student, giving feedback and providing much higher level of support than if the class sizes were larger. The Design Studio is located next door to departments such as Engineering and Motor Sport allowing for collaboration between departments and developing a greater insight and understanding of the automotive industry that you wouldn’t otherwise see.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
The SA1 campus has a great location, close to Swansea beach and the town centre giving you plenty to do after lectures. The Gower peninsula is a short journey away and has lots of beaches and coastal paths to keep you occupied all year round.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I hope to get a career in an Automotive design studio where I’ll be able to see the projects that I work on start from nothing and become physical products that are showcased around the world.
What is/was your favourite thing about your course?
Every year the course takes a trip abroad, whether it be spending the week in Stuttgart to visit the home of Porsche and Mercedes or going to the Geneva Motor Show. It‘s always a great experience that is offered to every student on the course.
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I would recommend UWTSD as no other Automotive Design course offers an equivalent number of opportunities or level of interaction between lecturer and student. The coast side location, Swansea is perfect for inspiring creativity and for refreshing over the weekend.
