Aadam's BA Automotive & Transport Design Experience
What was your favourite thing about the Swansea campus?
The facilities & workspace provided have got to be my favourite things about studying this course at UWTSD. The Automotive Design Studio is a brilliant space to work both collaboratively and individually, with the help and support of tutors readily available. The past students’ models on display is inspiring for new intakes and sets the bar for them to work towards. For me it’s been ideal to get to know and work with fellow students from my own and other year groups, especially the 3rd years from whom I’ve learned a lot from.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I chose UWTSD because of the facilities & expertise provided with the course. Over other universities offering the same course, it stood out to me from the impression I had from course staff, the campus and success stories from graduates.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
Outside my studies, I enjoy Photography, Travel and Snooker. I took up Automotive Photography just before I started, from which I gained a number of contacts with local car enthusiasts in Swansea. Whilst it was a hobby for me, a lot of the skills I learned through this experience synced well with the course - from digital retouching in Photoshop to communications with clients.
What are you doing now, how did you get to where you are and how has your course helped you in your career?
I hope to work within a bespoke field of Automotive Design, where the focus is on one-off projects or special commissions - particularly for a Coachbuilder. I would also love to challenge myself and get involved in other fields of Design, where the focus may not necessarily be in Transport but anything that would allow me to expand my horizons. I’m currently on my placement year with OLA Electric UK, which I was awarded through my 2nd Year Industry Project. Securing the internship involved a lot of resilience and spending many extra hours in the studio on a regular basis, hence checking in with my tutors more often than usual.
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I’d highly recommend UWTSD for the BA in Automotive & Transport Design as it’s brilliant from the perspective of facilities and the staff behind the course. Both tutors, Sergio and Vibhor make an amazing effort in bringing in their expertise and valuable experience from the world of work. They are more than willing to take the extra step further in training students for the industry environment, shaping the newer generation of Automotive Designers.
