The Visiting Professorship was formally launched during Dr Zinn’s visit to Alexandria in November 2025, marking the beginning of a new phase of international academic collaboration between the two institutions. The programme of activities follows on from an established partnership with Professor Dina Ezz El Din, Vice Dean for Community Service Affairs and Environmental Development at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, who was awarded an Honorary Research Fellowship by UWTSD in 2023.

Professor Dina Ezz El Din welcomed the appointment, saying:

“We are delighted to welcome Dr Zinn as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels. Her expertise in Egyptian archaeology and heritage brings immense value to our students, researchers and academic community. This partnership strengthens the ties between our institutions and opens the door to exciting collaborative projects in heritage, sustainability and public engagement. We look forward to building on this relationship in the years to come.”

Dr Zinn was welcomed in person by Professor Abeer Atia, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, before meeting with academic staff of the Department of Tourist Guiding, chaired by Dr Sara Kitat. Discussions focused on developing future collaborations across heritage, museum studies, archaeology, tourism and hospitality.

During the week-long visit, Dr Zinn delivered a series of lectures and workshops for academic staff, postgraduate and research students across several faculty programmes. Topics included religion, heritage, museum practices and archaeology, culminating in a well-attended public lecture and specialist workshop on comparative approaches to headrests in Egypt and China as examples of global heritage.

As part of the academic exchange, Professor Ezz El Din and Dr Kitat also arranged two specialist visits to the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria, as well as a visit to the exhibition Mediterranea: Vision of an Ancient and Complex Sea, held at the Consulate of Italy in Alexandria, which explores the Mediterranean’s past and sustainable futures.

Dr Zinn commented:

“It is a great honour to be appointed as Visiting Professor at Alexandria University. The welcome I have received has been incredibly warm, and the level of academic engagement and enthusiasm among colleagues and students has been truly inspiring. This collaboration offers exciting opportunities for shared research, teaching and public engagement in heritage and archaeology on an international scale.”
